| Welcome to the Anglican Parish of St Martin, Hawksburn. St Martin's was launched as a parish in 1883, and from that time has seen itself as being a place of warmth, spirituality, and care. Originally a housing area for the working class families of the neighbourhood, Hawksburn is now part of the vibrant and cosmopolitan area of Sth Yarra and Prahran, with the parish sited within the boundaries of Williams Rd, Malvern Rd, Chapel St, and the Yarra River. Although small geographically, our parish has a high density population of apartment and flat dwellers, including Department of Housing apartments, and a range of modern residential developments. Like many inner city parishes our parishioners are a mixture of locals and once-were-locals from all around Melbourne. We are easily accessible by public transport, with Hawksburn station and the Chapel St, Malvern and Toorak Rd trams all a short walk away.
Inclusivity and friendship is the other cornerstone of our parish. We seek to welcome all people into our parish community no matter what the circumstances of their life or faith, and in doing so hope that we are reflecting, at least in a small way, the inclusive love of God. We are all on the search for understanding and acceptance, and we recognize that there are no easy answers. At St Martin's we encourage each other to ask the difficult questions and to look beyond the simple solutions so that together we might reach a place of honesty and authenticity. Community life is important to us at St Martin's. Regular study groups, social evening and events, and other gatherings are an integral part of our parish diary. We also seek to be involved in the wider community through such things as our playgroup, emergency food relief, concert series, and counseling services. Our facilities are also available for hire for your. Details of these activities are also on this website. Thank you for taking the time to explore our parish via this website. We hope that you might also make the time to check us out in person, where you will find a warm and friendly welcome. Alternatively, please get in touch with us - either by phone or email. We look forward to meeting you. Rev. Scott Holmes ![]() |
